Boy, I didn't see this one coming. With echoes of Morton Subotnick's Silver Apples of the Moon and Vangelis's jarring outlier, Beaubourg, this is not what I was expecting from one of my favorite ECM artists. But glad I gave it a second spin. This is a milestone work of quality and deliberateness and an individual artist's exploration of inner turmoil. Courageous and surprisingly accessible--after you get over the shock.
